I'd look around the Boston area for schools; I've heard a lot of good things about their music scene, and if you were thinking of joining up with some other people, I'm sure there are plenty of like-minded musicians hanging around.
I've heard that what you really need the most to succeed is determination...if you have to put on concerts for benefit dinners or whatever, do it, even if you don't get money for it, because that's establishing a fan base, generating talk, and exposing yourself to the public (and possibly a professional who likes what he hears). I'd make a demo tape, too, that you could take to your gigs in case someone seems interested.
Good luck!

You could try uploaded some of your stuff to http://music.download.com
It's watched over by hundreds of companies that are looking for new talent, and it costs nothing to get your stuff up there. Always worth a go.
It depends on what type of stuff you are composing, but everyone has room for improvement, and you might look at you local uni's or colleges for specific music courses with heavy compositional persuasions.
My degree consists of many composition modules, and it's something I have constantly looked into. If you check on the net for Bumble Bee studios in Indonesia, they also could help you with various contacts for media composition (tv ads etc...). That might be an avenue you wish to pursue.
Hope this helps a little. It's a harsh industry though dude.

A whole lot of luck to you. I've been trying to enter the music industry for the past few years. I've played in several bands which haven't gone anywhere. Making it in the music business is an extremely long shot but more power to you. My advice is to get together with some guys and start jamming, record execs are not only impressed by material but by live shows.

Well you need a demo, but you can't just send it out, because of the copyright. You need to get published first. Open mic night. Hand out at hot spots. Word of mouth. My sister wrote some music, made a CD and spread the word, and now she's playing at the Pentagon for Black History Month.

Make a demo. It's all about the right breaks. Show the demo to someone famous or someone who knows someone famous.
