I'm looking for a good fictional gay story that is inspiring, emotional, and captures the reader's interest. Perhaps a novel about growing up gay and dealing with the hardships that come with it.

Not sure this book is inspiring or emotional, and the hardships are more about the character's own preferences and kinks, but a really cute story ( and one that is difficult to find ) is titled:
"Memoirs of a Voluptuary, or the Secret Life of an English Boarding School"

There's also the Oxford Collection of Gay Short Stories, something like that, that has a great collection of gay-themed stories which run almost the whole 20th Century.
