There is one individual, who is sleeping with one of the HR reps. He went to her with lies about me and a co-worker. It turned into a huge deal with upper management. So much so, that the co-worker was told to stay away from me. I talked to my boss and he said not to worry about it. We let time pass, and now we have started to go to lunch again. The HR rep saw us, a group of people mind you, and is stirring things up again. What to do? We have been singled out, and I'm sick of it!!

If you go to my profile the top listed site has an informative article on workplace harassment and dealing with it. I would submit some form of grievance against this person so it can be mediated to stop any further harassment.

Well, there must be alot more here than meets the eye. It seems curious that he would care whether or not you eat lunch, much less who you're eating it with. Unless he knows the enmity isn't one-sided.....

Having said that, I would say you have one of four options:

1. Keep doing what you're doing, go to lunch with your friend, hold your head up high, and ignore what HR, upper management, and anyone else is saying. I don't see how they can ding you for who you eat lunch with, especially if they don't ding the gossip or HR rep for who they're SLEEPING with....

2. See your friend and co-worker after hours, in secret,

3. Drop your friend like a hot potato

4. Quit your job and go elsewhere.

It all depends on your priorities of course, but my point is this: THE ONLY THING YOU CAN REALLY CHANGE IS HOW YOU RESPOND (OR DON'T RESPOND) TO THE SITUATION. THE GOSSIP WAS A TROUBLEMAKER LONG BEFORE HE KNEW YOU, AND HE WILL BE A PAIN IN THE *** LONG AFTER YOU HAVE MOVED ON.

Sorry, but if you're sick of it, sounds like option four might be your best bet. If it makes you feel any better, office romances have an extraordinarily high rate of failure. Whether you stay or go, chances are good that fairly soon the gossip will have to be defending himself from the tyranny of the HR rep, if and when things go sour.

Good luck, but don't waste your precious energy trying to make this right or change things you can't possibly change.

I would go to your boss once more and say that you cannot tolertate this situation any longer...and suggest that he have a group meeting with all involved employees to get it straightened out once and for all. If anyone starts anything out after that he should let them know it will be the last straw and they can expect severe consequences. If this is never resolved I would consider seeking employment else where. Life is too short to have to deal with crap like that.

Too many pronouns. I'm not sure if you're talking about yourself or your friend. Again, need to be clear. Too many pronouns.
