this is one of those q's that if you have to ask you may not get it. as a long time admirer of his work I will tell you that the spiral is one of the oldest images in art dating back 60,000-100,000 years. In this piece it works well for its intended use. whenever a piece must be useful as well as graceful and safe there are elements that come into play that have to relate to all of those issues instead of just art for arts sake. This piece has overtones of a lot of things in our lives and if contemplated for any length of time will reveal other connections as well,.... mountain, fish, slide, road, castle... etc... etc... just where ever you imagination takes you as is the case with all art ....when you take the time to give it the chance to "talk " to you thru your eyes and heart it will take you where you imagination is at that time.
He will always be one of the giants in outdoor, very sensitive pieces. Hope that you grow to understand and like his work.
