Unfortunately, this entails 1) getting the hal.dll (you can probably find it at yahoo by searching "hal.dll" in the search engine) and 2) using DOS to copy it from a cd/floppy disk to C:\system32 folder. If you don't have experience doing this, it could prove quite difficult. An alternate solution would be to install a cheap hard drive as your primary (of course installing windows on it) and then simply accessing all your files on your current hard drive which would then be the secondary.

Check your computer documentation and/or the manufacturer's technical support; OR the manufacturer's online knowledge base. Chances are it's a known problem with your computer and can be fixed real quick; OR the tech support people can tell you whether your original recovery disks offer a menu selection named "Repair installtion" which would repair and/or replace corrupted or missing files.

Good Luck

Download hal.dll from here: http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/do...load0UFfSGVLjP
Then unzip it to c:\windows\system32, or, unzip the file & copy/paste it into the system 32 folder
