Depending on the make of your car, some are equipped with anti-lock brakes. When you press the peddle really hard, they will go down and make a popping sound but, once the peddle is released, they will go back to normal. If your peddle is now continuing to travel all the way to the floor and your brake light is on, there is a good chance that you either popped something in the master cylinder or, in one of your wheel cylinders. You should have a professional look at it immediately.

You probably have anti lock brakes and they sensed the wheels sliding. That triggered the light as well a strange sound. Try them out on some dry pavement and see if they are ok.

it sounds like .1 if you have drum brakes in your car the adjuster popped out or when the adjuster went it started one of the wheel hydraulic cylinder to leak setting off the brake lite because of lack of fluid.check the master brake cylinder to see if it is low on fluid.

i own a repair shop, and it sounds like it may have just blown a wheel cylinder,,or a caliper out on it,,this will make the pop you described,,and it will also make the pedal go to the floor reel quick,,they need to be checked before you drive it again,,next time they may go all they way out,,you need to have someone look at them, and see what happened to them,i wouldn't drive it until i knew for sure,,good luck,i hope this help,s.,,PS also check that brake fluid, and see if its low,if so,,you did loose some, good luck.

check your brake fluid level and give them a good bleed. Other than that it could be wheel cylinders: not too expensive, but you definately want to have it looked into

Your brakes should be fine, what you've described is a normal function of your anti lock braking system. After some normal braking the light will reset it's self.

You have a problem with your brakes. The light remains on because the secondary master cylinder is providing the braking power. Please have the brakes checked soon.

This could have been caused by a number of things. it is possibly a leak in a brake line, your brake caliper could be out, and need replaced, or you could need new rotors.
