This is a problem for both men and women, and yes it does look horrible. The problem appears more in plain-front pants (non-pleated), this is due to less room/space in the front. Plain front pants tend to be more form fitting and have a slender fit. Many people make the mistake of always buying the same size no matter the style, fit, cut, or brand... not all pants are cut the same so they will not fit the same even if it is your normal size. If you want to avoid the pockets from popping out, I suggest either wearing pants with pleats, buying a waist size larger and get it altered or if possible having a tailor let some room out in the crotch area and in the back, any of these will allow more room and cause the fabric to lay more natural and not be pulled. Hope this helps, not always good in trying to explain things in writing.

Find dress pants that are sewn at the pocket seams (I have some for work from Banana Republic). Then don't rip out the stitching or use the pockets.

A lot of women cut the pockets out and sew the opening shut.

It may be that your fitting yourself wrong... if something is too tight around the waist, the bulge under the waist will pop out your pockets... you dont have to be fat for this to happen to you... it happens to everyone

Sounds like they're a bit on the tight side. Did we enjoy the Holidays a little too much this year??
