This is totally normal, even out of the blue like this. My son just hit the 6 week mark and he did the same thing - - he pooped on the 4th day. If you don't see anything tomorrow, I'd call your ped. just to run it by her/him, but really this is just exactly what breastfed babies do sometimes. If he seems like he's in any discomfort, obviously, check in with the Dr., but I would bet that tomorrow he will have a dirty diaper. Don't try to treat him in any way on your own, just as I said, check in tomorrow with the Doc. Good luck, don't worry!

I breastfed three children (ages now 16, 15 and 13) and it always took them a few days to have a bowel movement. There is a trick in which you use a rectal thermometer and gently stimulate the anus and it should help but since its been three days you may want to consult your doctor more for your own peace of mind.

That is actually a common misconception. Breastfed babies CAN and DO become constipated. They are affected by what you consume. My son received breastmilk and he was constipated all the time. His doctor told me to use suppositories because he was too young to give juice and she told me to DEFINATELY not use Karo syrup. The sugar is not good for them. I was just reading my new copy of Parent's Magazine that came in the mail a couple of days ago and it said that Corn Syrup (Karo) is in the same classification as Honey....it can cause botulisim in babies under one year, so everyone needs to talk to their baby's doctor before giving this to their baby for contstipation.

Try prunes (prune juice would probably be better). If that doesn't work within 12 hours, get him to a doctor. My nephew had the same problem. The doctor had to get it out manually (if I remember correctly). Just remember if he uses his finger, there might be some blood. Don't worry about that. It won't kill your baby or anything like that. It would just be his... you know... being stretched a little too much.

My sister later told me that when the doctor saw this happen (the blood part), the doctor said, "Holy Sh*t!"

i haven't had this happened to my son, but my first year book given by my ped says that it is normal for a totally breastfed baby to be reduced to one poop a week at that age. Call your ped anyway, but if he's acting normal then he's probably fine. hope this helps. good luck.

Isn't this a question you should be asking your pediatrician? Increasing water intake may help. But certainly, don't give the baby anything to induce a poop without the doctors consent.

3 days is too long not to poop for a newborn. take him in n see what needs to be done.

A little apple juice would probably do the trick. I know my sister's kids get pretty loose when they drink it.
