Has this ever happened to you? What do you tell them without hurting their feelings or seeming stuck on yourself?

The best way is to be honest. Let them know that while you appreciate the fact they like you, you are only interested in them as a friend. Honesty is always best.

It happens a lot to me. I am a very masculine, guy next door type that many men find attractive. It seems every time I meet a guy and want to develop a friendship I have to tell them I am only interested in friendship. (sometimes it is the other way around too)
Unfortunately it alienates some guys who feel they have been rejected, but I am always careful of my wording, respectful and kind....their hurt feelings are their responsibility so I don't dwell on it.

The first response you received is always good. I'm very honest (not in a hurtful way), so I tend to be up front with people. My response is usually, "Thanks, but I'm not interested". When I've been further pursued by the same person that just doesn't get it, I do tend to be nasty and LOUD to get rid of them. This has ended with some crying, but it didn't make me feel guilt, because you can only say no nicely so many times.

Yes it has happened to me and it is an uncomfortable situation due to the fact that you don't want to shoot someone down nor hurt their feelings.

All you can do is tell them that you do not feel the same and that you are not trying to be cold or mean but your just not feeling a romantic attraction to them.
Tell him that it is not that you don't like him nor that you wouldn't be his friend, your just not feeling the same way.

It's happened to me before. Just tell them that you don't feel the same way about them, but that doesn't mean that you can't be friends, or something along those lines.

I've only been in this situation once, and I didn't handle it the way I would've liked to. I kind of led him on because I didn't want to hurt his feelings. I have since apologized to him and we are still friends and I have learned a great lesson.

Yes many times but I think it is better to be honest and tell them the truth i would not want to be a sympathy case ! so I would tell them the truth it is very easy to use people until someone better comes along I have had it done to me a couple of times !!!!!!!!!!

I was lucky--I knew someone who was interested in him and too shy to say so.

He was a paraplegic but extremely athletic, really fabulous shape. I was a couch potato with a limp that I would eventually get loose of. He asked me out, but I knew this girl who was totally into him, so I told him gently no, but you might ask her.

That worked out.

Tell them that you're very flattered, but you're:
a) seeing someone
b) otherwise socially engaged
c) don't swing that way
d) just can't wait until I break up with my S.O. so we can hook up
e) am gay
f) am straight

There's a lot of ways to be nice about it - and it speaks well for your character to think about their feelings instead of blowing them off (no pun intended).

Let us know how it turns out!

"Thank you, I appreciate the complement but you're not my type."

If they continue the behavior after that then you know they have a problem/issues with understanding respect...yours AND their own.
