I'm 14 and I am thinking about lifting arm weights steadily for the 1st time. I have a long and lanky body that I would like to keep for basketball, but I'm afraid that if I lift weights it'll mess up my form. My arms are really long for my height (about 6 inches longer than they are supposed to be). If I lift 15 pound arm weights every day, or every other day, do you think that this could possibly stunt my arm's growth rate. Please Help.

P.S. If you have any workout ideas please post those too.

If your arms are that long, it could be a sign of a disease of the connective tissue called Marfan's disease/syndrome. Look here, to start:

You should consult a doctor if you think you might have it, because it can cause big problems.

Now, to answer your question, 15 lb weights will not stunt your growth. Good luck!

Hey, I can lift 100 times my body weight with no problems (at least that's what the Science channel says).... lol

There is nothing wrong with keeping your body fit... go ahead and lift every other day to allow muscles time to recuperate... 15 lbs will tone and add some muscle and you can certainly use that to your advantage in sports like basketball or boxing or baseball (good reach!). Activity will only help not stunt...

Good luck!

I'm assuming you don't want to bulk up?? lift lighter weights (5-10 lbs 15 lbs might be too much) with a lot of repetitions. (like over 100) you might feel a bit sore are first but thats what you want. Another good idea is to get 5lb wrist bands and play/practice with them on. This will give you a good cardio workout it will tone up your arms but it wont add bulk. Don't increase the amount of weight you lift just do more of the excersise. If you increase the weight by too much (like anything over 20 lbs) you will bulk up

No it won't stunt your growth, it will help make the bones denser and build some muscle. At fourteen you can't really judge that your arms (or legs) are too short or long. Next year you might grow (inches) in height. I know several guys that grew six inches in one year. As for the basketball ask a school coach, he can give you some exercise ideas, even if you arn't on the team.

dude i started lifting weights around 13 years old. lifting weights doesnt make your arms smaller if makes them stronger. Start lifting weights and you will get buff. Dont lift too much or you can get back problems and mess up your back.
