Every one in my generation would have thought you were just quoting Ed Sullivan. Nobody here probably even knows who he was.
People are saturated with the Liberal point of view everywhere they turn in the media. That's why conservative talk radio is so popular, it is a view point that is not voiced anywhere else. That it exists is a testament to the liberal bias in media.

Actually, there are quite a few of them out there, but they're mostly on internet radio streams. However, Sirius satellite radio has a plethora of liberal talk shows, and they're good, too!

I think that the main reason that there aren't many mainstream liberal radio shows is there is no advertising money in it. Oldest story ever. Corporations own America. Rich, right-wing men run the corporations. They need to keep spinning the facts to keep your eye off the ball. Look how well it's working?

And, we still have Bill Maher!

Besides, liberals spend more time reading. That's what intelligent, free thinkers do.

Several reasons:

1. Every time I listened to Al Franken, he was mocking Rush Limbaugh rather than talking about issues, he was also yelling a lot and seemed very negative and condescending. It is hard to get your message across if you are negative and mocking.

2. There are a lot of other ways for Liberals to hear about the issues from their point of view (NPR, The Today Show, etc). Conservative talk radio came about as an alternative to get Conservative ideas out in the open.

3, Demographics - who listens to talk radio? Middle aged men and women driving around on their way to business meetings, they are more likely to be Conservative. Young Liberals are probably more likely to be listening to music or NPR or have jobs that don't permit calling in while driving to meetings.

because the "liberal" community (or, everyone who isn't "conservative") is made up of fringes. there isn't a group of core issues we all focus on together consistently that would enable a voice to gain a foothold and a following. i'm not sure there are many, or any, gay-hating, pro-life, anti immigrant, pro business, pro gun folks, but enough of them will respond to at least one of those issues to lend the radio personality traction.

Listen to Ed Schultz some time. He's not affiliated with Air America and is doing quite well.

Same reason any religionistic talk show host makes it big, people aren't really drawn to it... such as liberal ideas. People want to do their own thing.

It's called the manufacture of consent. The majority of news media in this country are owned by a few very focused enterprises, and since liberalism denies commercial success as the epitome of human endeavor, they are like fish being asked to thrive in a terrarium. Since conservative capitalism functions on a system of causing fear and offering solutions to that fear, naive human beings get caught up in that cycle and become like drug addicts. And since their "pushers" have arbitrarily demonized liberals in this era (previously it was communists), diversity is seen as treason and to oppose Rush LImbaugh is to oppose God. THAT'S why you can't hear alternative ideas on American mainstream media.
