I had a friend who was hit by a car several years ago. He almost died and had damage to his brain stem. It looked bad for him. After a long time of therapy, he did get better and went back to playing guitar, which was remarkable because he could hardly use his hand at all. He does still and always will suffer from shortened memory and has a totally different personality. He was a pretty tough, mouthy guy. Hes now very soft spoken and sorry to say, cannot hold down a job and lives on disability. That's how it was for him... hope this helps.
