My daughter is almost 13 months old and has been a voracious eater since we started table foods with vegetables and fruit being her favorite things. She often eats more than I would expect but for the last 2 weeks she seems to have lost her appetite for food and has upped her nursing sessions to every couple of hours. I was hoping to start cutting back on her nursing. Is this normal? Should I just let her nurse on demand? I also recently started trying to add some whole milk to her diet and so far she has totally refused it. I am a little concerned because she is anemic and has lost a pound in the last month. She went from 19.05 pounds to 18.04 pounds. Her Pediatrician just said I need to up the iron rich foods or start her on a vitamin for the iron. Anybody else have a baby that was eating great and then just stopped for no real reason? She had a check up last week and nothing else was amiss. Thanks for your help!

Maybe she isn't feeling good or teething. My son will hardly eat anything, then all of the sudden he's sick-it's like a sign of something to come! Go ahead and nurse her so she's getting something, the World Health Organization recommends nursing until the age of 2. It's just mainstream America that tells you to wean at 1.
Try the milk on her when she's eating solids, like when she gets thirsty. That way she'll get a taste of it and maybe will like it. Sometimes it takes a billion times before a children will like something.
Also, maybe she's getting sick of what you are feeding her and is bored. My son will love something one week, then the next week he acts like I'm feeding him the most disguisting thing on earth.
Good luck!

Kids are picky. My daughter will eat anything. My nephew ate mac n cheese everyday for 4 weeks straight! It just depends on the kid and what they like. Some kids are picky about textures and smells. You said she likes cheese puffs so I would try to find anything that is similar and gradually she will get used to the other foods. You could try the Gerber Graduates Finger Foods that they make for babies. They make all different types of puffs snacks! And if you are really worried about it...Pedia Sure makes a drink for children who may not get the nutrients that they need from food. It is similar to milk, just flavored. Im sure with time she will start trying more new foods and actually enjoying some of them. Good Luck!

Your daughter is being lazy. I know it sounds mean, but it's true (my son did the same thing). Children like to nurse because they don't have to chew, so they can relax and not do much. It's easier for them to swallow.

When you give her the whole milk, just leave it in the bottle and let her eat. She knows that, right now, if she doesn't want it, Mommy will give her what she wants. I know it's hard (and going to be loud), but you have to give her the bottle and leave her with it. When she gets hungry enough, she will drink it.

i agree with b cool she could just be lazy. if u really want to stop nursing her i suggest that instead of giving it to her in a bottle to give it in a cup so that u don't have to worry about her getting attached to that. try warming up her milk first.
