One of my friends told meh that Iceland is owned by someone...is it true?

The country of Iceland is an independent sovereign state, but has been under the direct influence of Denmark and Norway at certain times in its history, and was occupied by the British army during both World Wars.
Although it is a member of NATO it is a solidly neutral country with no defence force to speak of. Its air defences have been provided by the USAF, but these are being pulled out in 2007 and possibly Norway will take on that role.
it is an interesting country and well worth a visit, especially in the summer with the sun dipping below the horizon for only an hour in the wee small hours of the morning. Fascinating and mesmerising.

Wierdly enough, the Iceland supermarket chain is owned by the Big Food Group. Which in turn is owned by Baugur... an Icelandic company.
As for the country of Iceland, that has been owned by the Icelanders since it became an independent republic in 1944.

The Iceland supermarket chain is owned by a company called Baugur who oddly enough are actually based in Iceland (the country).

Iceland is no more owned by anyone. It was a part of Denmark until 1944 when it gained independence. Danish is still taught as a second language in Iceland.
