Everywhere in the world wars have been fought over the Bible and God. From the very beginning Jews were persecuted, scattered, attacked....

Right when Jesus Christ began teaching there were people that wanted to kill him. Nero, Diocletian (sp?), and many other emperors all tried to kill and annihilate Christians. The Crusades were so-calledly fought in the name of Christianity. Books on the Bible and the Bible itself were burned through the ages. In World War II Hilter tried to annihilate the Jews. Today, Christianity, God, and the Bible are the most disputed topics anywhere. Virtual wars are fought over creation vs. evolution. Christianity is hated throughout the world while many other religions (Mormonism, Buddisim, New Age) are all tolerated. Israel is the center for dozens of wars and exists in a state of perpetual tension.

Why is there so much anger, prejudice, and hate over this subject?

And why has it survived for thousands of years when so many have tried to kill it?

Thank you, Chrybaby and John D, who replied with Biblical knowledge! I was aiming for that answer, since I myself am a Christian and wrote from a Christian POV. Thanks! ^^

Corun, thank you for your answer as well. As it is, I know there is another side of the coin, as you put it. I have several atheist friends I debate with regularily - we try not to shout to much.

I believe the Crusades were crazy as well, but so was the Inquisition.

Also, there are many hardcore Muslims and Buddhists that try to make converts - death or else. I'm not talking about the ordinary Muslim that lives peacefully, but the Koran does state that all infidels must die. Christians, in this sense, are actually spreading a good cause with reasonable explanations (if you look at it with an open, but not gullible, mind). If someone tries to beat you over the head with information and convert you on the spot, they're not doing it right.

Thank you again for your answer!

More replies! Ronin, you are entirely right. It is inherited human nature to be completely sinful, deceiving, hateful, angry, and desperate. Wars are a fact of life.

Hopefully though, if we trust and have faith in God, things will be better.

There are many ways to attack this question (no pun intented). I am looking at it from a Christians Point-of-View. In the Bible it is stated that christians will be hated for their faith. Jesus was persecuted because he claimed to be the messiah. Jews at that time, did not believe he was and were offended, so because they had the power, they persecuted him and his followers. The jewish people believed that he spoke blasphamy, and felt that he was Disrespecting their god. That is why Pauls confirmation was such a miraculous event. He was a zealous jew who spit in Jesus' face. Until God himself spoke to Paul. Christianity is also severly mistaken. People feel that its all about rules. so "new age religions" are welcomed because the people have more freedom. In the bible it says That the wars will continue until Jesus comes back. So its all in His holy Will! Chistianity was never said to be easy but its a faith that will save! I Promise!

Part of the source of the contentions and wars is that the Judeo-Christian origin involved nomads moving into territories that were not their own. Territorial instinct and ancestral memory remain with those whose lands were conquered.

Also, Christianity, more than any other religion, teaches to proselytize and make converts. Like it or not, this is seen as aggressive intrusion by those whose traditions are different.

Many religions are surviving thousands of years, despite that conquerers try to invade and change peoples. During the Crusades, and still in many parts of the world, Christians and Jews fight, even perpetuate war, to achieve their own aims.

I'm not answering to condemn, but there is this other side of the coin from what you write.

First of all, the Jews are only one tribe of the 12 tribes of Israel. The Bible story is about Israelites, not just the Jews. Jesus was of the tribe of Judah, a Jew. He said that they would want to kill him because of what he was teaching.

Wars are fought because each side believes it is right. Simply human nature. If you don't believe like I do, I will hate you and kill you! Obviously this is not what Jesus taught.

There is a plan for the rescue of mankind, but not the way man thinks it will happen!

The Bible is divine international. God designed the Bible for the toddlers besides as great PhD, for the Jews and non Jews. What could ensue to the international if all each and every person is secretaries or all each and every person is accountants? I even have attended countless church homes and be taught that pastors have specialization purely like PhD tiers: some in prophecy, some in charitable giving, and so on. however the essence of all authentic church homes is the comparable: to construct authentic international Peace (Luke 2:14) under Jesus, via propagating Agape-love. think of of it like a company. CEO's purely or secretaries purely won't artwork, will they? something I be taught additionally for the duration of the years is that for the duration of the approach of information the Bible on the deeper point, I mature. it incredibly is named regeneration and the showering, to His holiness.

Considering that just about every major religion in the world has internecine warfare and trouble with outsiders, I think it's pretty obvious that it's human nature to simply be cliquish.

why is there so much controversy over god?

a combination of three: individuality
:curiosity
: desire for meaning

Individuality is a manifestation of the ego. A construct of personal belief based on past experience. And because everyones experiences differ from one degree to another, this leads to difference of opinion, which forces conception of new ideas in order to improve upon previous beliefs, and thus form better arguments for their cause. It is spawned from a fortuitous genetic mutation that has giving humanity both its greatest strength and most abysmal of weaknesses. Individual objective. If one says there can be and another says there cannot, each will seek more information, more power and more following in order to strengthen there conceptual reality. in the process, they will snuff out the weaker beliefs in favor of the stronger... more currently needed action-cues(beliefs). i see it as,... a sort of "conceptual" natural selection. thoughts lead to belief, which lead to disagreement, which lead to arguments, which lead to conflicts, which lead to a conclusions over the weaker of concepts by the stronger... using whatever means currently necessary. The stronger concept (weather correct or not.) leads to the continuity of itself based on the current needs of its people, until its need is surpassed, at which time new arguments will arise.

We desire to know.

We desire to mean.

We question differently.

Our curiosity strives to apply meaning based on personal experience, and because of this our interpretations differ and thus draw different conclusions. and squabble...

that is why.
