Its not like they are ever going to succeed. Everything that can be invented has been invented. All the other discoveries will be just minor improvements.

Ask the Cave Man from the Geico commercials, I'm sure he can tell you why.

There's always room for improvement. How about faster cars? Or flying cars? I'm not into biology and health but there are still diseases to be cured. Cancer, heart disease, aids... What would you do when there's no more gasoline, would you walk? Do you ever think about the future? What would you do when there is not enough resources on earth? There are a lot more questions that give scientists their motivation. Not all scientist care just about the money too. There in intrinsic motivations like finding out new things that can help future generations. Do you just not care about the future of everything and everyone. It is curiosity and the need to improve that drives scientists to do what they do. Do you not have creativity or curiosity? Do you not care about others' lives? Do you care about the welfare or health of others? Just because you think you have everything, it doesn't mean everyone else does. If you don't even have a thought of the future and think scientists are wasting time, you are the most selfish person the big bang ever created. If you think none of the scientists are going to succeed, at least they are trying. What are you doing? Minor improvements are better than none. Do you have a cure for cancer? What if you were dying and you just needed a minor improvement to survive, what would you do? Sit back and wait for it?

I really would like to know where starships that can travel to other stars in less than a lifetime are at, since according to you, they've been invented. And I guess they are lying to us about how people are dying from diseases because, if you are correct, we have invented cures for every possible disease.

Technology and understanding of our existence has advanced more in the last century than it has in the last two millenia. There are so many things we don't know about. We don't yet fully understand the make-up of our existence. The holy grail of physics would be discovering a unified theory that can unite quantum mechanics and general relativity, which currently compete on many levels. Learning how to break or circumvent the apparant speed limit of the speed of light will probably be the most important discovery humanity will ever see. There is so much yet to be learned and I wish I could live long enough to see all of it.

Once a generation has labeled something to be impossible the next generation makes it possible, and the one after that makes it ordinary.

Back in the 1920s-1930s Space Travel was nothing more then a childish whim... Those same day dreaming children lead the charge to put Neil Armstrong on the moon. In the 70s-80s it was a big deal when we sent something into space, now it barely makes it on the 6 O'Clock News.

Humanity has yet to reach it's limits in knowledge of any specific subject. There is still a lot to be discovered, & a lot more to be understood.

I think this is a chain jerking question but I'll bite. The greatest discoveries of all are just ahead. Think of our discoveries to date as climbing up a hill, seeing the glow of something bright as you near the crest. We are about to stand on the top of the hill and view wonders beyond imagining..

You only think that everything that will ever be invented has been invented. The difference between us plain folk and truly great scientists is that they can see what is not there yet - and invent it!

String theory ring a bell? Cosmic microwave background? M theory? Brane theory? All in the last few years. Just this summer, we'll know if Einstein was right. You have a lot to learn about the universe - we all do.

You don't know what you don't know. It's silly for you to assume that nothing else can be invented.

They do it to build their knowledge and others, so that one day some one may actually suceed.
