To listen to what they say first and try to show respect to what they say and thus they will listen to you carefully and agree in some parts maybe or all what you say.. If they did not, at least you gained their respect and thus they will keep this in their emotional bank account and when you open another subject with them or the same subject they will be open to agree with you.

As much as we'd like to, we can't make other people agree with us or our point of view. It's just a fact of life. I think it would be better and more productive to agree to disagree.

It's impossible. If you're disagreeing with someone and you don't want to fight and/or they're a friend and you realize that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, then simply tell them, "Okay, apparently we can't come to an agreement, we can't just sit here and argue until someone changes their mind, let's just agree to disagree"
But definately let them know that they have no right to disrespect you, just because they don't see "eye-to-eye".
