Filly - Girl

A baby horse is a foal. A male foal is a colt, and a girl a filly. They are considered colts and fillies until they are four or five. Grown fillies are called mares and grown colts are called stallions unless they are fixed which would make them a gelding.

In tender- a foal.

Filly is a female up to the age of 5 at which point she by patron status in the wild retains the title of Mare (when there were an abundance of wild horses still in america- research found that only Mares over the age of 5 were allowed by the herd to be bred)

Colt is the name for a male to the age of 2 at which point if his testies aren't intact he becomes a gelding and if he retains his testies he is a stallion or stud

When a mare (expecting Dam) gives, the FOAL is either a colt (stud boy) or filly (girl).

If the colt is not castrated by age 2, he is considered a stallion. If he breeds, he is considered a stud.

The filly is considered a mare at age 4 years old.
