I think two quarts is probably enough. To give you a definite answer is a hard one as there is differences in the capacity of all rear ends due to the way they are manufactured. Do as recommended and fill to the plug level and even over it as the excess will start to drain from the hole. I used to overfill all the time as you never know how much is actually in there as this fluid does not flow very well and there are a lot of obstructions inside that resist the flow even further. When you overfill, let some leak back out and then get your plug in there. Underfilling a differential is not recommended as the bearings that absolutely need the level of oil won't get served, mainly the front pinion and the axle bearings. Good luck.

i am assuming the fill plug is stripped and you are filling the diff by the vent hole? any time i serviced a chev diff 2 and a half is what they take a little less won't really hurt but if you get an undetected leak you will be half a liter closer to running out of oil. good luck.

you should get more gear lube you do not have en-of fluid to get to the out side of your axle to tube wear the bearing is out their two quarts will give the ring gear and pinon plenty of lube but not en-of to go down the axle tube. good luck P.S> for a ten bolt rear end it is 2.5 quarts

Check your owner maual for the right amount of fluid, or just fill it to the plug....you cant go wrong with that. If you are a litlle low you should be alright.
