If your allowed to make a study guide to help you at any point, weather it be studding, or on the test, make one! there are really no quick ways to obtain this information unless you know it! If your like me, you can see the stuff a thousand times but you still have an extremely hard time processing and remembering it. So why don't you try to write some of your key concepts down a few times or over and over again until you can remember. When you have free time, think about it and try to remember some of what you need to know, by knowing what you don't know, will help you to study what you should be studding. (hope that made sense) Hope i was of help to you!

I'm in AP US also and I find that what hepls me the most is making flash cards, that way I get the information into my head when I write. I usually make them as I read the chapters in my textbook. Before a test I quiz myself on them, but what helps the most is having my parents quiz me (using the flash cards), because then I say the information out loud and it's like I'm being lectured on it again. By explaining it to them, it is like I am explaining it to myself, if that makes any sense. Another thing that helps is going over the material with my friends that take the class because we come up with stupid jokes and sayings to help us remember certain events.

I'm in it, too. If you don't have to already, do outlines of the chapter. And if you take lecture notes, review all of those before the tests. A lot of study guides are made for APUSH and you can review what they have connected to it. Oh, and SparkNotes makes lovely little summaries... my friend got a hold of a wonderful one for Reconstruction.
For essays, study up on specifics that you can work into your essays that make you look good.
Oh, and one last thing. =] Try historyteacher.net, they have nice practice quizzes.
