Fahrenheit was a scientist who set out to make a temperature scale. The coldest temperature he could make in is lab, he called 0. THe hottest, he called 100.

Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit invented thermometers, that seem to be very little change from the ones we use today. The glass tube type where the liquid expands inside with a numbered scale next to it. So having invented the thermometer, he needed a scale. The easiest way is set a 0 and 100, then divide off the measurements in between. For zero he used the coldest temperature he could produce, salt water at freezing. For 100 he used the body temperature of a horse.
Celsius is a lot more useful for everyday use 0 is water freezing point, 100 is water boiling point.

Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit created it by putting (180) degrees between the boiling and freezing point (212 F-32F) note that a if you made a 180 degree turn youd be facing the opposite direction just as 180 degrees is the difference in the polar opposites of ice and steam

Physicist Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit (1686–1736) created in it in 1724. 0 degrees F was initially derived from a very harsh winter from 1708-1709, believe it or not. More details in link.
