I have noticed that the 2007 NHL All Star Game iin Dallas, Texas is being played on a Wednesday and not on a Saturday or a Sunday. Why is the NHL All Star Game being played on a weekday instead of being on the weekend this year?

it is so that ratings wont be affected by the nfl playoffs-by playing it during the week it will have a good chance of better ratings-if its played on the weekend it also goes up against some nba games -networks will then pay less to get the game -tue-thur-sat-sun are big for nba and nfl dominates any day they show games-with the off weekend for football the all star game will most likely have the highest share of viewers for a sport program this week

No doubt the channel coverage had a big effect, but perhaps another reason was that all star games, particularly in the NHL are seldom worth watching. They are pernniel no-hitters where the players powder puff around on the ice, going through the motions with absolutely nothing on the line and no reason to really compete. A top flight player in the NHL cannot afford to take risks in a meaningless game like this with the playoff stretch drive right around the corner. If any of you had the misfortune to view the "Young" Stars debacle.....that may also have had an effect on the All Star game because it was absolutely a pathetic display, not even befitting the pond hockey description most analysts labelled it with. Don Cherry might have the best idea for it. Make it worth winning! Apparently for some of these gazillionaire players $50G and a trip to the Bahamas would make it worth working for.

Dragging it out all weekend a la the NBA hasn't reallly worked out ratings wise for the NHL. I guess they figure people don't have anything else to watch on a Wednesday night. They are always changing it all around. Remember when it used to be Europe vs. N.A.? I think it actually worked best when it was a pre-season game. What I can't understand is why the NHL wants to be on the cable channel that people don't have, instead of "the world leader in sports". By their logic, if someone offered them more than Versus to NOT carry their games, they would go for it.

My opinion is that last year was the 1st year of the new nhl so they didnt no anyone was into watching hockey but this year after last years playoffs has had alot of viewers so they figures if they are true fans they will watch anyday of he week.

becuase. this year the NHL cares less.

they made a deal with Versus(OLN) which like only gets to 1/4 of all households in the US. so now, some games arent availiable.

then they broadcast the allstar game there too. and only there. on a wed too by the way. bad move.

Don't understand the thinking of that either. I live here in Dallas, and the major cable companies don't care about VS. And I cant afford the tickets!

its cause when the computers made up the new schedule for the next few season it came up on a Wed night instead of its usual Friday all star competition and Sat all star game.

Because very few people care about the game anyway and those who do will watch whatever day it is on.

I don't know, maybe to see if they will get better ratings.
