What type of vehicle did they use and where did they attempt to go. Did they have any problems with re-entry?

Yes. I served in the navy with Lt. Mario Runco. He was up in the Space Shuttle two times.

Yes I do.
He used a Soyouz T-6 spacecraft to reach the Saliout 7 space station.
Then on a second occasion he used another Soyouz TM-7.

And on a third occasion he flew aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis to get to the Mir space station where he stayed a few days.

No specific problems were encountered with re-entry.

I don't know anyone who has been in outer space, but I knew lots of people who have been in inner space. Inner space is just outside our atmosphere but not quite in what is know as outer space. They did it in a military fighter jet.
