Not often at all.The iPod uses a lithium-ion battery witch has about 500 charge "cycles" witch means letting the battery run all the way out, and charging it back up. Depending on how much you use it it could last from 1and a half year, to top around 9 years. I sugest going to :http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipods.html and it will tell your all about the batterys, how long they last, graphs, and battery replacment. I have an ipod photo from when it first came out 3years ago, and batterys still works nice. But now i got that ipod video :]

Hi! It depends on how often you use the ipod, and how much you charge it. it also is a matter of luck. some can last for a few years, some only last for six months. I use to sell ipods and you can see them come in after a few months...some dont need to come in to be replaced at all. if you havent gotten one yet, i seriously reccomend a service plan...the battery replacement can be expensive!
