how to do the absolute value on a ti-82 for programming purposes for the equation of distance between a point and a line .... so the value is positive??the little lines that goes on the sides....

I don't know if you get it but thanks if you can help

Actually on the TI 82, the absolute value button is the second function (blue) of the x^{-1} button (inverse button). It is located on the left column below the math button.

On my TI-84 (which I assume is basicallly the same as the 82) you just hit MATH (right below ALPHA), the scroll right once to NUM and choose the first one "abs(". Hit enter to show this on your home screen. Then fill in your number (or equation) and close the parentheses and hit enter again.

Seeing that all ti graphing calcs are similar I believe that to do absolute value, you have to:

press 'Math'
then move over to the Number category
and it should be listed as abs or something similar
