Hi there, my system is as follows P2 3.2 Gz, (64bit) 1 Gb DDR ram,200Gb hd. XP Pro on a foxcon board.I now only have about £60/£70 available for a graphics card, (upgrade from Radeon 7000) but having done some research,i am now totally confused!!
I mostly play rpg's, but would like to have a crack at some of the more recent first person shooters. Obviously, i Know that for my budget there's going to have to be compromise, but at the moment i just dont know where to start. I have considered the 256MB ATI Radeon X1300 8x (£60 ish)
Any thoughts? all input will be gratefully received,
Many thanx, ian

Rid yourself of any confusion by taking a look at the tomshardware site (first link) which allows comparison of an assortment of graphics cards in various games.
The breadth of choice for AGP cards is shrinking rapidly, don't be too long making up your mind.
In your budget range, it looks like you'll be restricted to these:
X1300
7300GT
X1600Pro
7600GS
in ascending order of price performance.
If you are interested at all in keeping down the noise, then the passively cooled Gigabyte 7600GS might tempt you - expected in stock next week at http://www.scan.co.uk/ and/or http://www.dabs.com/ - this would (indeed will) be my choice.
Good Luck with whatever you choose!

Look for a card that has a bus of 256 bit and it will be good, i have a ATi AIW 9800pro 128 mb card which is just as good as a ATi Radeon X800 because its a 256 bit bus speed (doesnt matter how much memory it has)...

regrettably, the slot, AGP, itself is old. the perfect one i will advise is a 7600 sequence of geforce. besides the undeniable fact that it may nonetheless not be sufficient sufficient to play greater present day and upcoming video games. you want a pci-e slot, it fairly is a sparkling motherboard with a pci-e slot to be waiting to relish enjoying video games.
