I am assuming you are talking about a 3rd gen or 4th gen Camaro. 3rd gen Camaros, even the z28's were rated @ around 165 hp. Hardly enough to get things moving. Very sad in fact. Although a lot can be done to perk up the 305, I would strongly suggest BIGGER. Depending on your budget, a 350, 355, 383, are all pretty decent for performance and daily driving. Going to a salvage yard or on line and looking for a corvette engine is a good idea. They can be bought for a reasonable price. If you want bigger, check in on my homepage from time to time. I am doing a Camaro build-up right now.

The 350 is a much better motor and can be stepped up in horsepower a lot easier than a 305. The 305 motors were not hardened like the 350 blocks and heads which is why there were more problems with the 305. All parts for the 305 are directly able to be swapped to the 350 also. Good luck.

Try going to jeggs.com or summitracing.com and look at the crate motors. If you want decent gas mileage stick with the smaller 305, more power requires a bigger motor. I never have liked the 305, much prefer the 350.

The 305's are fast enough engines but I would personally rather go with the 350, they're more powerful and more reliable.

If you have the money dont waste your time with the 305. And dont let anyone tell you that it is more reliable than a 350. The 350 will always be the better choice and it will bring better resale.

That depends on the state that you live in. If your state allows for that sort of thing I would say go for a 350. Although if I am not mistaking your insurance might go up cause it is a bigger engine, and if you do not tell them and get in an accident they will pull out because they did not agree to cover a vehicle with an engine of that displacement.

Don't get the 305 it was Chevy's **** engine. I have built Chevy's my entire life and I would go with 350 /383 stroker. It is a 350 with A 383 crank, rods ect. It would be a good daily driver and will pin your head back against the seat when you get on it.

Have fun killing them ricers!!!

Do Not get the 305, that was chevys worst engine, it had poor flowing heads and produced low horsepower..... get a 350 or a 327. I would build up a 327 with 2.02 heads....ported and polished, cam, forged pistons at 10-12-1 compression, headers, 4 brl with edelbrock intake....ect......
