Yesterday a pet donkey of mine was put to sleep because she was no longer responsive to anything. She developed lock jaw and blindness very quickly. Once the vet arrived her back legs were stiff as if she was locking her muscles. I wasn't there at the time and just would like to know what could have possibly happened. Please...if you are not serious don't answer this. This was a loved pet and she is gone. Be kind.

Sounds like tetanus to me.

YOu have the vet right there, I would have asked then. Tetanus is the cause of lockjaw, the donkey could have stepped on something, rubbed up against something, etc. that was infected with tetanus. Call your vet.

Sorry for your loss.

possibly tetanus- it wouldn't be rabies.

You can get tetanus by getting scratched on a rusty nail/piece of metal that is harboring the bacteria. Most common symptoms are muscle rigidity and lockjaw.
there are a lot of diseases that cause muscle rigidity though- call your vet (its free to call!) and ask what s/he thought it may have been.

I am terribly sorry for your loss.

What comes to mind is rabies. I know I've been told lock jaw and muscle rigidity are symptoms.

But I'm not sure.

So sorry, for your little babe.

Didn't anyone ask the vet? Call them up and ask them.

Maybe tetanus?
