It depends on your sexual activity. There is scientific evidence that persistant infections with the common virus HPV can cause cervical cancer in women. Smoking increases this risk as well as some forms of birth control. If you are not and have not been sexually active it is important that you talk to your OBGYN about getting the vaccine Gardasil. This can protect you against infections of 4 different strains of HPV. The only way this is effective is if you have never been sexually active. If you are, then you should talk to your gyn. about your concerns. Your doctor will usually perform a PAP smear which under a microscope will reveal abnormal squamaous epithelial cells, one of the layers of cells that line your cervix. The only "symptoms" of an HPV infection are visible cancerous lesions or warts.

It is possible to get anything at any age, but some things are less likely at certain ages.

If you feel something is wrong, don't wait, go see an OB/GYN and ask questions and tell her what is going on. If there really is a major problem, you want to deal with it early on, not later and too late.

Anything is possible... you need to have a pap-smear where they insert a large cotton tip inside your vagina and take a swab then they send that off to see if you have abnormal cells down there and they ring you and let you no. it's also a common thing to have abnormal swab result then the doc asked you to come back about 6 months for another swab to see if your still abnormal and they may then take yo in for a laser ttreatment to burn them out.
