Its a hangover from the days when comedians were minor variety entertainers in music halls and end of pier shows, and the jokes were just a small part of a wider act that included singing and dancing. I think modern comedy only developed properly in the late 1950s with the advent of acts like the Goons, the refined in the 60s by the proto-pythons and others. But a lot of the original culture can still be found in English seaside resorts and pantomime...
Don't you like them to sing? Some of my favourite comic moments are songs, eg: "Always look on the bright side of life!"

Never really been able to answer that, because, err, I'm a comedian. Chances are, I'll never actually get round to having that answer. Unless tradition explains it of course..

They might be right .00001% of the time stop picking on comics. The poor people are out there trying to please us and philistines like you get at them. This stinks of covert racism against people from Com.

but most should stick to comedy!!
