If you watched any part of the show today you would've seen exclusive interviews with the Hornbeck family and Shawn himself talking about how he's doing today. I understand that everyone wants to know why he didn't run away when he had opportunities but won't this affect his emotional state of mind? Thankfully the Ownby family decided that Ben didn't need to talk as he's had enough media attention on him. It's only been a week since the boys were rescued. They need to stop talking to the media and start to what's going to be a very long recovery.

I feel it is way to soon as well. But I also have not walked in their shoes and I pray no parents ever have to again!

If it is true that Oprah paid them money then I pray they got millions for the interview, as they all deserve to have the best life they can have! All of the Hornbeck's have given a tremendous amount of themselves emotionally and physically over the years, so it's time that they enjoy each other and live comfortably.

God Bless both families and I'm so happy that this story has a happy ending!

I think that Shawn's parents did it for other missing children. They run Shawn Hornbeck Foundation which helps to track missing children and a lot of people helped them with their search. They won't just forget that and think that if Shawn's home everything's OK. They want to show other people that they are still there for them and Shawn's story could really help with the search for other kidnapped kids, I mean look how Shawn has been in front of our noses the whole time. I just don't think that you can judge them, they just want to spread the joy with others and maybe to give Shawn a chance to defend himself from those ridiculous presumptions that he enjoyed his captivity time.
I also think that it was too soon but you have to consider that those people are under the media attack and they wanted to find the best solution.
It's just not the same with Ben. People are happy that he's home and that's it. He is not further victimized by the media (thanks God) like Shawn is and you just can't compare their cases.
Well it's my opinion.

the OPRHA show made a huge statement. and that is precisely what she was wanting to do. i live in st louis. shawns face was posted everywhere!! everywhere!! there's lots of missing children everywhere. but shawns family pushed and pushed and pushed his face out there. and pleaded for his return. shawn knew this and this is why he didn't give up! if you watched till the very end of the show, you would have seen the expert give his reasoning on "WHY" he didn't call, etc. And also why she, herself, OPRAH, is going to push for the 1 strike..You're out law.! even shawn's best friends mother, who had pics of him early on....didn't suspect anything.
in my opinion, anyone who saw this kids face, and watched the news, or went to a grocery store, had to have seen this face plastered somewhere. yet, no one said anything. perhaps out of fear?
shawn's mom and step dad felt the need to reach everyone. and i think the OPRAH show was a damn good way to do it!
shawn will have to talk. the prosecution relies on that. and he may feel more comfortable talking with them, than his own family at this point. the prosecutors aren't going to get emotional about it. they can get the facts better sometimes that way.
but shawn does need to talk about it. it's part of the healing process.
unfortunately, we may only hear bits and pieces from now on. at least until the trial. and we do need to respect boundaries. if either of the boys are ever going to live normal lives again, we need to respect that.

I live in this area, and it is very hard to grasp any of what is going on right now. There are several other missing children in this area, and if the Hornbeck family appearing on Oprah helps any of them find their children, then I for sure won't be questioning their motives!

I agree but you know why they did it. Money. Oprah definitely paid this family some money for coming on to her show. From what I've read, the Hornbeck's spent all of their money over the years looking for their son.

yes it's too soon...but maybe they need the money they must have received to pay for some counseling for the child because that is what he needs, not being questioned by oprah
