For instance, guruFocus.com lists purchases made over 3/4 months ago - but is there a service I can subscribe to that lets me know the day an individual such as Warren Buffet purchases a stock?

The shrot answer...you cannot get such information n the day it occurs.

You can find out a few motnhs later for investment companies such as mutual funds (which are very large investors) or the sotcks for which Warren has a greater than 5% stake.

Good to try to ride the coattails of leading investors, but you can outperform them if you due your own research and follow your instincts.

Invest in what you know and like, that way, it's less of a pain to follow the companies. Also focus on the industry you are currently in, since you know a lot about that industry.

If you go to the library and read some investing books, you will basically know everything professionals know. It's pretty simple to break down the numbers and leading indicators.

Good luck.

You can try: http://www.stockpickr.com
Supposedly it's tracking the best hedge fund managers.
I just caught a glimpse of it...I haven't used it yet, but it may be what you asked for.
P.S. I think I did see Buffet's name on a list there
