1997 tacoma 2.7L. The bolt and pin that holds the chain sprocket on to the camshaft has broken twice. Is there any history on this. Seems to be a stretch bolt and hardened pin.

the bolt is bottoming out in the hole before it tightens the cam sprocket to the camshaft flange. the bolt will torque fine, but the sprocket isnt held tight to the cam. it has just a little movement between the 2, and when the engine runs, the bolt is subject to sideways strain, and it isnt made to take that.

is this the Harmonic Balancer Bolt ? if so you need to a million) avert the crank from shifting (we use a 'chain' wrench, and 2) save at it with a breakdown bar, and strengthen the leverage applying a galvanized pipe which could greater healthful over the breakdown bar. we've a ninety 5 Teg. That bolt is verrrry difficult to get out on the grounds that's torqued all the way down to ninety-a hundred and ten feet-lbs.

pay attension to gearhead.ill have to agree with him.if the bolt is too long then it will make the sproket wobble and then break the bolt.

the timing chain must be set wrong or there is a valve hitting a piston or something
