Is Oprah really fighting poverty in Africa by opening a school and making chances for only a handful of students and most especially girls?

girls have always gotten the short end of the stick in south africa, as with many areas of the world.i think the school is a wonderful thing. i hope it will allow them to better their lives and help them to feel that they are an important part of society and the world.

I think it's great! Yes, of course she's fighting poverty by helping handfuls of girls in Africa become leaders who can go back to their communities and make a difference there. We've tried giving food to the starving in Africa and it's usually stolen by the governments or rebels of some sort. Perhaps Oprah is creating leaders on the continent so that they can finally help themselves.

I think what Oprah is doing for these young girls in S. Africa is wonderful. Yeah, there's a limit to a number of girls to qualify for this once in a lifetime opportunity but it's something a whole lot more than most people would do!!! She has plenty of money to go around and I admire her for doing it.

If Oprah wants to throw her money out in the street and step on it, it's her business. So she gives it back to the motherland. Big deal!

i think she's a wonderful role model and we should try to help out in our own way. i mean the avg. person can't build a $40 million school but we can still help out in small ways.

it's a nice thing to do, but i believe she should spend her money in this country helping children here considering she made her money here.
