Check the American Association of Community Theater Web site:
http://www.aact.org/index.htm
AACT is a nationwide organization that links more than 7,000 community theater groups across the country and overseas. In addition to performing plays in neighborhoods and towns, AACT also sponsors workshops for kids, teens and adults.
I started working with my local community-theater group last year, and it's a very rewarding way to get experience in front of an audience, working with other actors, and most important to get you "in the game."
You should also check the drama department at your school, if there is one -- yeah, I know, drama (like music and art) is the first thing to get the axe when budgets get tight. But if you can find out who USED to be the drama teacher, you might get a good introduction to a local theater group or a tip on where to start looking. I suppose it's possible for a drama teacher not to love the theater, but I've never met one who didn't.
The other thing to do: find out who does live theater in your town or near where you live and volunteer to help them out somehow. Theater groups ALWAYS need tech crew, ticket-takers, people to hand out playbills, etc., and it's a great way to start networking with the professional (or semi-pro) acting groups near you. Chances are that somebody there knows of a community theater group near you, or belongs to one. And you might find out when the theater group holds open readings for future performances; that's the way to get a lead on your next role.
Mainly, it's the age-old advice: don't give up. Keep looking, keep asking, keep searching, and never give up hope.
And -- break a leg!

You don't say where you live but there should be some kind of drama school not too far away. Do some research in the phone directory or online looking for schools, amateur companies or acting agencies in your area. There's bound to be something. If not why not start your own. Put up an ad at school asking for other people who are interested in the same thing and start your own theatre company!

Try out at the fireside, my friend Callie does plays there all the time and she's only 13. I'm not sure if you get paid, but it's a good way to get recognized.

Well, if there's nothing in your school that has to do with acting, try and making a small group with friends or something. You can also make home movies with your friends. Stuff like that.
