how do i check for my current DNS settings?

Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Right-Click on the connection and choose Properties. Click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and chose properties.
Use the Advanced button
The settings are on these Tabs

Windows flag+R>Type in> ipconfig/displaydns.

at a command prompt type:
ipconfig /all
