This is certainly not the only reason but I think religion has a lot to do with it. Sex is natural and as humans we are drawn to it. Religion tries to make it dirty and oppress it. The more they say it is wrong, the more we want it. It is like pushing down on a giant spring. The more pressure you apply the more the spring resists.
