Well, I had one in my shop the other day, and I called the Chevrolet dealership in Montgomery, AL and they told me that it was to turn on/off the passenger airbag..

I have a similar switch on my 99 Z28, but my is an ASR button. Mine turns off the traction control system, but my Camaro is also a 6-speed. If this button is to start in second gear, where is your traction control button? Or better yet, do you have one?

yup hes right -second gear start- but its also for fuel economy. that button kept the camaro in a lower gas guzzler bracket.

Second gear start. It is made for starting on slippery or wet surfaces.
