What is a cleft? and a heart murmer? Spelling might be incorrect. They just mentioned that their baby has a cleft in the top gum, not a cleft palate(I know what that is) Thanks

A cleft is just a space where ordinarily there should not be one so it sounds like their childs gums are not grown together completely. A heart murmur is when one of the hearts valves does not close all the way, as it should but this is usually not serious. My mom is in her 50's and has had a heart murmur from birth also.

A cleft is a slight parting where it's not formed together completely. A heart murmur is an abnormal sound that is heard while listening to the heart due to disruption in the blood flow. Usually, it's a valve that didn't close up completely after birth. Which is mostly harmless. There are many reasons for it.

The cleft is a small deformation. A heart murmur is where the heart is not exactly functioning the way it should. The beats tend to be slightly irregular.
