I have a desktop computer attached to a HP printer and wired to a wireless router. I have a laptop that is wireless and can print thru the desktop sharing. The desktop has to be powered up in order for the laptop to print. Is there a way to set this up so the desktop does not have to be on and keep the desktop hardwired and the laptop still access the printer? Thanks

The way the whole shared printing works is your laptop is goes and sends information to your desktop, which tells your desktop printer to print. If your desktop is off, your laptop can't send the information to the printer. A way around is if you can hook up the printer to your router instead. Not sure how this is done, but I've seen printers that have their own IP addresses, which you can then use in "Add Printer" and selection of the printer through IP address.
