Hadn't thought of it before, but I guess it means Sean Hannity could appear on CNN.

I do think it's a limit on free speech!

Government-compelled speech is as bad as government prohibited speech. If the government tells a station to broadcast candidate or viewpoint A, then the station has less time to broadcast opinion or viewpoint B.

The right to free speech means the government can't tell you what to say or not to say. The right does NOT guarantee that your viewpoint will be heard!

The media markets are very, very competitive. If a show's ratings are low, it gets pulled, whatever it is. PEOPLE choose what to watch, by ratings. PEOPLE have the rights, not "points of view."

When it comes to political speech - the heart of the First Amendment - to say that the government, rather then the people, has the right to control what people see and hear is absolutely grotesque.

How would this work? How do people decide what is a political opinion, or an opposing point of view? Does a Klansman get as much time as Barak Obama? Does someone advocating an American monarchy get time to "rebut" a Fourth of July parade? Do we need a "response" to Will and Grace, because it has a favorable view of homosexuals? Do DJs have to play Lee Greenwood any time they play a Dixie Chicks song? (Liberals have said Rush is "just an entertainer," so do we treat entertainers like him?) I haven't even mentioned CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, NPR, etc.!

What bureaucracy will answer all these questions? WHO DECIDES? How on Earth can people so concerned about Bush's terrorist surveillance program want this much government interference into their lives?

Sounds like the Soviet Union to me. If a Republican had suggested it, people would be screaming.

"Fairness" is great. Government imposed speech (and silence) is tryanny!!!

some Democrats (as have already been named) that are fearful of Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh have been thinking it and the communicate approximately it have been given lower back to conservatives. actual, I first heard of it from a Democrat on Michael Savage's communicate practice. i'm a conservative and that i've got heard lots approximately it yet i don't pay attention to Sean or Rush opposite to what those Democratic leaders think of roughly who's best conservatives around. there is a variety of of information to get off the internet and that's the place I many times get mine. There are additionally a variety of of conservative cyber web sites purely as there are assorted liberal web content. the concept that conservatives won't be in a position to think of for themselves and choose help from the Democrats to get the different fringe of a controversy is purely liberal concern mongering between themselves, and somebody desires to awaken and scent the coffee.

I doubt it will pass. I don't know too much on this but at a quick glance it looks like it would require oppisite time to be given on issues and contriversal subjects. His own party will kill this idea because it will be for all and the dems will want to put out some one sided info come next election, this bill would effect them as well. Republicans will be against it because a dem is bringing it up.

But on face value it looks good to me.

So CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC are going to have to start also giving a conservative view point. Fox already does this!

I think die-hard Air American fans will stroke out - I really do. I hope they put Rush on there... that would be just priceless. Hell, I'D even listen to Rush if they put him on AA.....

I think it would be a pleasant change for NPR.

Not a conservative but I'm all for it. Clap. Clap. Clap.

I think it's just another example of a far leftist wanting to control everything. With cable, it's not needed.
