He took the same oath the president did to up hold the constituation of the United States, and he was put in office for the people not just the Presidents vague idealest tendencies. He is not there to protect the president, but to ensure that he does not abuse his position and power. He needs to follow the laws and not be exempt from them like Gonzales is saying.

Attorney General is to supposed to serve the people and government not protecting the President.

What you say is all well & good. But who is Gonzales' boss? He serves at the pleasure & service of the President. The office of Attorney General is part of the Executive Branch of government. So if he displeases Bush, he is out on his keyster. As I recall, Nixon fired or had 4 resign on him when they refused to cover HIS behind just before he was forced to resign.Gonzalez would never have been chosen if Bush did not think he would toe the l9ine.
