While they're both fantastic artists, Beyonce' is also a movie star, so I'd say she has more mainstream popularity.
One of my all time favorite songs is Mary's "Goin down" (carwash remake)
I love them both, but I'm going to say Beyonce'

If we're talking about music, for sure Mary is better, because her music is much more sensitive and deep. She is able to write and compose, ans she has a stong voice which shows all the feelings...
Beyonce has a nice voice, but actually her greatest quality is only her...beauty...
And beauty is only beauty, it's not an art...

I think I heard somewhere that Bono said she sings like "her life depended on it". And she does put more of herself emotionally into her songs, so I agree.
