The wear of the brakes depends on the driver and the composition of the pad material more than anything. Four wheel disk brakes will give you better braking performance, but drums are preferable on the rear of a pickup because of the weight.

The brake job should be about the same for either. If you have to replace a rotor or a drum, they are also usually about the same price.

The price to replace is the same at major chains like GoodYear, Firestone, etc...

As for wear, I've had both types on different vehicles and have found that the wear is better on my vehicle with four wheel disc brakes. I have also noticed that my rear brakes, since they aren't drums, perform better as they get older because brake dust doesn't stay stuck in them like in drums.

4 Wheel disk brakes generally have better braking power than rear drums/front disk. However, pads do not last as long and are not as durable as a drum. It is much easier to "warp" a rotor than it is to wear out a drum. Drums however are much more difficult to change brake shoes as they require special tools and lots of "elbow grease" It is usually easier to replace pads on a rotor.

Having a 4 wheel disc set up is better. You have more power to stop faster. I have a truck with disc/ drum set up and a car with 4 wheel disc abs and there is a big difference in the power to stop.

I've just replaced my front discs and pads all around-and 15 days ago I didn't have a clue about what to do. They are do easy to do yourself-rear brake caliper slightly harder if you've got integral handbrake.

front brakes always do a lot more braking than the rear, because too much braking force on the rear would cause the back end to lose traction and fishtail.

not really, as most of your breaking is done on your front brakes anyhow, and the prices are compatible with disc-drum set-up to replace.

all i can say is if it is not a race car, its better to have rear drum, some wear out better than others.
