Are you proud of being one? I mean, we haven't really done something to stand out. I'm not saying that we're supposed to, but since we're not really considered asian anymore and we're in our group, there's nothing that makes us known. Sure you can say that Filipinos have caring families and work hard, and it could be true. But that's about it. It "could" be true. In fact, it could be true for any race, so it does matter, but you can't lump everyone like that.

They don't flip burgers, clyde. Unlike some people, they stay in school and find and keep jobs. They raise their families and don't neglect nor abandon them....something that probably doesn't sound familiar to you...You is a edumacated knoocklehead.

Why would you not be proud? Would you rather be something else? As a Pilipina, I am offended.

Where would you get that we "are not really considered Asian?" We are Asian. The Philippines is part of the continent. There are some that would consider us to be Pacific Islanders. In that case, count the Japanese, Taiwan, Vietnam, any island nation in the Pacific Ocean!

The PI is the only nation conquered by the Spanish that has retained it's own language. We were the first Asian group to land in the US. Thousands of Pilipinos fought and died against the Spanish and Americans for the right to keep their country from turning into a colony, but several fought in WWII for the US. We are the second largest Asian group in the US to date. AND a Pilipino man invented the karaoke machine.

Filipinos work hard for their families. The largest export from the PI is people. People who leave their homes and families to live thousands of miles away to send money back so that they can feed and educate their children. Without that income, the economy would collapse. Isn't that love?

How do you want Pilipinos to "stand out?" The Philippines has a long standing history of fighting and struggle to give you the luxuries you have today. I am damn proud to be one.

If you feel like there's nothing in the past to be proud of (which is untrue; just look at some of the things Lysa wrote, for example), why not look ahead? Work to do something your people can be proud of. Nobody cured Cancer yet. Why not be that guy? So that way, when my grandkids get asked this question they can go, "Well, the person who cured cancer was a Filipino!" And it doesn't have to be something huge like that. Why not be the person who volunteered at the homeless shelter for the most hours this week? Don't always put the burden on making a good name for your race on others; it's your responsibility too.

I work and study my as s off and carry myself so that my peers, colleagues, and superiors can say, "Who, Eddie? Yeah, I know him, Filipino guy, hard worker, good EMT. He's a real stand up guy" Or my patients can tell their relatives that "the Filipino man with the ambulance was very helpful and kind to me".

Have pride in who you are and the rest'll follow

I would like to suggest that you should do some research of what the Filipinos contributed not only in Science & Technology but in the field of Arts, Literature, etc. You will be overwhelmed by what you will know. For example the fluorescent lamp was invent by a Filipino. There are a lot more. The problem lies that we are not vocal about it, maybe because of centuries of Western & European oppression. The country may not be the leader in Asia but I feel proud of being on. I do hope I open your eyes a little.

Are you really serious?? Just because you feel that you have not done anything important to stand out doesn't mean that you shouldn't be proud of who you are. It isn't always about doing something spectacular to stand out, and I find it hard to believe that there isn't a Filipino that hasn't done anything significant, not one ever, that's a bit hard to believe. Perhaps there wasn't much made of the fact that they were Filipino, or it isn't talked about much, but not one??

very unhappy, yet that's existence, the regulation is the regulation notwithstanding if it makes me sadder being Filipino that sees others who might conceal up the wrongdoings of a man or woman purely because of the fact they're kin. everybody needs justice, yet while a kin is in contact, that's going to be appealed in any respect value for leniency. yet while that's the area of a stranger, the government may be judged for taking bribes and letting the responsible loose.
