As all the major brands of routers are build to the same specifications on speed, etc, it makes no difference.

When you get into wireless, there is a difference. The 802.11g is the standard today, allowing speeds up to 54 mpbs. Avoid the older 802.11 b (Think G is good, B is bad). Where the brands vary is in the level of security they offer (the weaker WEP or the better WPA passwords) and other optional features (like a printer server). But for speed, all the 802.11g are the same.

Usually the speed of your Internet is NOT determined by you router, but your ISP. Most router on the market are able to handle speeds far above what your ISP provides. So if you want speed, compare the ISPs and look for the one with the highest bandwidth.
