write out the equation:

-3s = -24

how do you get 's' all by itself?
you divide by -3
because -3s / -3 = s
So, if you divide by -3 on one side of the equation, you have to do it to the other side, too.
so now you divide -24 by -3
-24/-3 = 8
so, S=8

3s = - 24

First: your goal is solving for "s" meaning: your going to find the number that is represented as the "s" variable...

Sec: solve for "s" by isolating it on one side > divide both sides by 3 (when you move a term/variable to the opposite side-use the opposite operation)...

3s/3 = - 24/3
s = -8
