I want to purchases an Ibanez IJXB190 Electric Bass Jumpstart Pack, a lot of reviews say the Pickups are noisy. What are Pickups, and can they be fixed?

Or should I buy a diffrent Bass? My second choice is a Squier by Fender Bass Guitar Pack.

Pickups are the devices built into an electric guitar or bass that pick up the sounds from the strings and transfer it to an amp. Pickups come in a number of types and configurations. Passive pickups (what you would find on a normal beginner bass like the ones you have mentioned) will have a little electronic noise which will sound like a buzz or a hiss when you plug it into an amplifier. Ordinarily this noise is not extremely loud or bothersome but occasionally it can be.

For an entry level bass to begin to learn on nearly anything will do but I have owned a Fender Squier and it is a very good beginner bass with decent sound and playability.

Playing bass guitar is a great experience! Like anything, it will take a lot of work to learn and to become proficient. Stick with it and you will be most likely have a very enjoyable passtime.

Best of luck to you!

A bass/guitar pickup is a device on a stringed instrument which captures vibrations from the string and delivers it to the amplifier (I'm not good at explaining these things)

It can be fixed (by replacing the pickups), but it wouldn't be worth it because it's a starter bass. I say you shouldn't worry too much about that, only start worrying when you're more experienced and are using much more expensive equipment. By noisy, they probably mean the sound is all fuzzy, if that's the case, stay away.

It sounds muddy and twangy at the same time. Many Bass players are forced to use a guitar string for back up if they dont have a bass string. Its not that good of a mix.
