i had to write a RESEARCHED essay on: RELIGION IN THE 50's
I wrote an essay, but my teacher said we have to use qoutations!! i dont know how to on a researched essay!!?
my essay is like this:
The 1950’s was a time of renewal for the United States after World War II. The world was recovering from a terrible conflict that touched the lives of everyone. It was a time where stars such as Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe dominated the film industry. It was a time when 50,000 copies of Playboy were published and distributed across America every month. It was also a time when organized religion took a turn down that has continued to this day.
The conservative idea in religion was very strict in the early 50’s. The use of the Bible and the popularity of churches at that time showed that religion was still popular. The Bible was the top seller during that era because people would refer to it that way. Religion had more of an influence in people’s everyday lives in the early 50’s.

If you used any books or resources, use some quotes from the book to support your claims/arguments.

It means you have to show where you got your facts from, to prove that you didn't just make it up out of your own head or these aren't just your opinions, to prove someone else agrees with these statements.
Go to the library and get an encyclopedia... look up the 1950s. Find a librarian, tell her your topic, and ask if she can recommend some good articles or resources for you to read.
The whole point of this essay is so that you can learn HOW to fine FACTS, instead of spouting off opinions about what you've seen on TV or whatever.
Anyway, find quotes from published articles that back up the assertions in your essays. For example (totally untrue, just an example): Professor Smith of Rutgers University notes that "Bible sales plummeted in the mid-50s, due to a rise in pop culture icons such as the Beatles."
good luck!

You just need to find quotes from books to support your statements. For example, if you tell your teacher "the conservative idea in religion was very strict" that doesn't show your teacher that this is a fact. For all your teacher knows, you could have made that up!
You should find a quote from someone credible (like a historian or a religious leader who have published things) and work it into your paper - it will prove that your statement is true.
If you want to get real technical, it's not actually LEGAL to steal someone else's ideas and pass them off as your own (even if it's just a school paper that no one will read but your teacher) so putting a quote in your paper, followed by the name of the person who said it, is going to give credit to the person whose idea this was. It's more common to steal someone's statement word-for-word and pass it off as your own, but it's possible to steal ideas as well. This doesn't sound like a big deal but in college when you are writing big research papers, it's important not to plagerize because you can actually be kicked out of your school for doing that.

You can quote an expert on religion of the 1950s .
You can also quote a statistic. It does not have to be necessarily what someone said directly. It can just be an exerpt from a magazine or a book.

you use it to support your statements. You could use your quotes to incorporate the "proof" that you have that the US was like this...ie...when you said that
It was also a time when organized religion took a turn down that has continued to this day.
-incomplete sentence
-according to WHO? (quote would be useful)
-what does "took a turn down" mean - unclear
-How was it a time that org religion did this?
etc...
