I want to say that I didn't ask this to prove any further points, I was actually just going over my own inventory about it.
After reading - - omg ALL of these posts, even though I am a "liberal" in the best (imho) sense, I agree with almost every attritube listed by even my political opposites.
This is good news! I think in the future we *might* be able to put our passionate differences about these years aside.

Jason - I'm not clear about your "HE" reference - it doesn't seem like you're saying only a man should be President...but if you read this, please expand. Thanks.

Chainsaw - point taken, but I really was asking about personal attributes, not policy.
However, that would make another good question.

1. Emphasis on economics and education
By this I mean someone who puts importance on improving the economic situation with a good agenda, perhaps with an emphasis on lowering the deficit. The economy is almost always at the top of my priority list. Education is also important and I feel that we are moving away from it with Bush.
2. Charm
With charm comes oratory skills. I think Obama has the most charm of all the candidates so far. Although charm seems sort of superficial, it makes me feel more confident with who's in power.
3. Intelligence, throughout their career
Bush and Kerry did horribly at Yale. All I know is, the president of this country should be someone who excelled throughout their life. This is huge; as charming as a president is, they will lead this country in a bad direction if they are not educated and intelligent. I want someone who took their education seriously.
4. Not religious / religious, but does not stress their religiosity
I do not approve of how religious Bush is, as I think it has played an important role in many of his decisions. How can you let something as subjective as religion affect important personal decisions? I want a president who is going to make sure church and state NEVER separate.
5. Someone who wants to lower the burden of college costs
I'm getting hurt by college loans ;)

1. A conservative moral compass (no gay agenda's please)
2.Hardworking/smart by own right (not daddy's)
3. Analytical Strategist w/ political & military expierence
4.Business minded
5.compassionate but with common sense
6. great oratory skills
sorry to pick 5 is difficult I wouldn't know which one to take out. other things are important and I agree with some one else who added personality characteristics: kind, ability to say "I was wrong", generous, smart, street smart, empathy would be good, but difficult for people who are good at numbers 3 and 4. Hey can we vote for Captian Kirk??

Wonderful question
1. Intellectual curiousity (I'll adopt that one)
2. Experience (proven governor or leader; not necessarily a soldier)
3. Integrity (not someone that has such a checkered past that new allegations will affect their current performance)
4. Knowledge of and belief in the constitution (someone who will not extend habeus corpus to enemy combatants)
5. Resolve/ won't fold under pressure

1. HE (see how I capitalized HE) must secure the Mexican border and deport all illegal aliens. And once their gone he needs to gather all the homeless people and have them fill in the jobs which the illegals have STOLEN.
2. HE needs to fix our welfare system it's a joke. No more freeloaders.
3. HE needs to change how congress gets raises (sounds like fun giving yourself a raise, I think they already make enough.)
4. HE needs to improve our standing with foreign countries.
5. HE needs to demand that both political parties work for the good of our country and quit acting like children.
I know you wanted attributes but I think this better.1.Strong presence when he speaks people listen. 2. Kind 3. Smart 4. Knowledgeable concerning world issues.5. AMERICAN. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

6. arresting people who leak and publish classified information
All you discussed is personality traits, not specific actions to be taken. This can be said about most politicians.
